What if it didn't live up to my expectations? What if it just couldn't compete with Greetings (aka the best book of all time)? What if it was SO GOOD that I was ruined for any other book I ever read again, unless it was a book by this author. She also loved this book.īut I was afraid to read it. read it, since she tried to hide my copy of Greetings and pretend she had given it back to me she loved it that much. I let my bookstore boss read it first, because she LOVED Greetings. And he agreed to 1) send us an ARC of his next book (this one) and 2) to do a signing of it when it comes out. I contacted the author through a lovely book site we were both on and he agreed to come do a signing for us of it. Made a dang FOOL of myself to tell others how incredibly AWESOME it was. Without being dreary or heavy-handed, author Burt does a nice job showing how two young men act/react to instant fame and how their respective families try to help mend the sudden rift. However, it leads to a believable breach in their friendship when one of them garners more of the spotlight than the other. What actually transpires, when their plans go awry - in front of an audience at an NBA game, no less - garners them more interest that either could have imagined. What gets the plot moving in The Right Hook is Devin's desire to be a social media sensation, and wanting Addison to film him performing a stunt that will attract online attention, followers, and possibly even $$$.
